Credit Repair Business – How to Evaluate

March 8, 2010

There is too much argument about the credit repair business to disregard it. In fact, the reason that so many of those who need credit help fails to seek it, is the shady reputation this industry has gathered in the recent past.

But it’s unfair and untrue that all credit repair businesses are out to rip off consumers. There are many trustworthy professionals who will do their very best to repair your credit score and credit report. However, that raises the issue of how to find out which companies can be trusted and how to steer clear of the ripoff artists who victimize consumers.

Contrary to the common wisdom, picking out a fraudulent repair agency is an easy matter. The first sign of danger is if the company you are considering offers to improve your credit in a very short time

Since your credit score is calculated on the basis of your financial history, it’s next to impossible to improve your credit score overnight. As soon as any credit repair business tells you they can perform what you know is not possible, you need to back off, because they are definitely fraudulent!

Also, you need to be aware of additional “red flags” that will alert you to scammers. The dishonest agency, in most cases, will ask for their entire fees up front.

Under federal law fees may not be charged until services have been rendered. No matter how bad your credit report is, never pay a company before they have rendered any services.

A fraudulent credit repair business is more than willing to use illegal methods. They will even counsel you to use illegal methods and tell you it’s all right to do so, because they know someone on the “inside” will cover up on their (and your) behalf.

Make sure you don’t fall for these kinds of lies! Don’t ever support any tactics or means to improve your credit worthiness unless it’s 100 percent legal. Irregardless of how bad your problems are, they will become much worse if you do anything illegal.

You are the person primarily responsible for any illegal activity to improve your credit; and so you can be prosecuted if caught using illegal means. Everything considered, it’s not worth the risk!

Yet another means to discover if the credit repair business you’re looking at is reputable, is to request they guide you in learning about repairing credit. A respectable company will be more than happy to give you some “hand holding” and advice in your endeavor to educate yourself regarding credit repair.

A genuine agency will take the role of a facilitator, while a fraudulent company will be resentful and wary about sharing information in regard to repairing your credit.
